It’s True!
- The tall, long-legged great blue is an expert fisher. It is the most common and largest of North America’s herons.
- With its wingspan of 5 - 6 feet, the great blue heron can gracefully cruise at nearly 30 miles per hour.
- Although great blue herons generally hunt alone, they usually live in colonies, nesting in the tops of tall trees.
- Eating mostly fish and mice, herons have been known to choke to death trying to swallow a fish that is too big.
